PARIS 2009 DAY THREE

There was a slight rain today and the forecast was for
rain all day. So we decided to go to the Louvre today.
It is a massive place. This is only one wing.

The entrance is through the triangle and down the escalator.

This lady needs no introduction. She's the
one and only Venus de Milo

This is Livia a very wicked woman. She was
married to Caesar Agustus and was the mother
of Tiberius. She poisoned all of Agustus's relatives
and persuaded Agustus to name Tiberius to succeed him as
emperor. Watch the PBS series "I Claudius"

Guess who? The crowds around her were hugh.

PHOTOS IN THE LOUVRE

The Coranation of Napoleon by Jacques-Louis David

Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix

Virgin, Child and St. Anne by Leonardo de Vinci

St. John the Baptist by Leonardo de Vinci

I don't know the name of this painting or the artist that did it.
It just fascinated me. The skin tones are grayish.

DAY THREE PHOTOS

Had a busy day at the Louvre. Getting ready to exit the triangle
and go for a stroll through The Tuileries Garden on our way to the
Orangerie Museum which houses Monet"s final work the wall
murals of his garden in Giverny.

Looking back at the Triangle in the center of the Louvre
courtyard.

A wider angle.

Overlooking The Place de la Concorde with the Eiffel Tower in the
background.

One of Monet's murals. They are on all four walls of two rooms.
Absolutely breathtaking.

PARIS 2009 DAY 2 AFTERNOON

After Notre Dame we had a Plat du jour with a glass of wine
in this side walk cafe. It was very good.

Then we walked across the street to a Berthillon ice cream shop
at 31 rue St. Louis. Excellent!!

One of Paris's oldest neighborhoods. They drive cars down this
street.

This is Place Saint Michel in the Latin Quarter. This has
been a rallying place since 1830.

Dinner tonight. I bought everything in the local markets.
The bread was still warm when I got back to the apartment.
The phrase Je voudrais has worked wonders. People are very friendly
and helpful. Having a wonderful time and I have walked miles.

WALKING TOUR OF OLD PARIS MORNING

Crossing the Seine on the way to Notre Dame.
In the background is the Palais of Justice. Note the
scarf. It's been cold here in Paris.

This is in front of Notre Dame. It is the center of France.
The point from which all distances to Paris are measured.

Couldn't go to France and not light a candle at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame from the side.

Notre Dame from the rear. zoom in and see the three figures at the
base of the steeple. The saints are looking down on the people the
architect Eugene- emmanuelViollet-le-Duc is looking up at the steeple
admiring his work.
